Luke 7:24. And when the messengers of John were departed, he began to speak unto the people concerning John, What went ye out into the wilderness for to see? A reed shaken with the wind?
Jesus was speaking to the people about, A man sent from God, whose name was John, came into the wilderness preaching, “repent”, make straight the way of the Lord, for the kingdom of Heaven is at hand. Matthew 3:1-3, John 1:1,23.
A preacher of boldness and not willing to compromise or take any glory. Matthew 3:7-12, Matthew 14:4,
And Jesus asks this question? “What did you go into the wilderness to see?”
Wouldn’t it have been wonderful if the people would have answered with, “We did not go into the wilderness to “SEE” anything, but to “HEAR” what this messenger of God had to say to us”.?
But they didn’t because they, like so many attending many services today, did go out to see.
A reed shaken in the wind, a man clothed in soft raiment, a prophet.
There was a term used at one time, “what’s shakin”?, meaning what’s happening? I hear that some weird stuff goes on in that church, let’s go see.
At one time it was the “snake handlers, now it is people, pastors and congregation that are slithering on the floor like snakes, barking like dogs and calling it the moving of the Holy Spirit.
Another man gets up, shakes his bible and gets everyone to repeat these words.
This is my Bible. I am what it says I am.
I can do what it says I can do.
Today, I will be taught the Word of God.
I boldly confess: My mind is alert, My heart is receptive.
I will never be the same. I am about to receive
The incorruptible, indestructible, Ever-living seed of the Word of God. I will never be the same .Never, never, never. I will never be the same.
In Jesus name. Amen.
AND THEN GOES AND DELIVERS A SPEECH CONTRADICTING THAT VERY BIBLE HE IS HOLDING UP.
Yet another preacher takes off his very expensive suit jacket, shakes it and waves it over the congregation and the onlookers see dozens of “the faithful” fall to the floor.
This same preacher then proclaims; “I place a curse on any man or woman that speaks against this ministry, against God’s anointed.
According to others, there are “great prophets” in the land today. And people want to see what will happen.
Most of these “prophets” use prophetic lingo that sounds really good but are very vague and immeasurable where they cannot be held accountable. When they do say something measurable most of the time it is wrong and they make excuses like the “modern-day prophet only has to be a certain percentage right, no one is perfect”.
What the people of Jesus day, found in John the Baptist was :
Like that spoken of in Ezekiel 42:16-20.Notice it’s purpose in verse 20 He measured it by the four sides: it had a wall round about, five hundred reeds long, and five hundred broad, to make a separation between the sanctuary and the profane place.
And again in Revelation 21:9-10, 15-16, 9 And there came unto me one of the seven angels which had the seven vials full of the seven last plagues, and talked with me, saying, Come hither, I will shew thee the bride, the Lamb’s wife. 10 And he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain, and shewed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God
15 And he that talked with me had a golden reed to measure the city, and the gates thereof, and the wall thereof. 16 And the city lieth foursquare, and the length is as large as the breadth: and he measured the city with the reed, twelve thousand furlongs. The length and the breadth and the height of it are equal.
These measuring reeds had to be “golden” refined by fire. They were “true” that is a true measure, one that everything else came into alignment with.
They were straight so that, that which was to come into alignment would not be crooked, perverse or of any iniquity.
Just as Amos looked at God’s Word and saw a plumb-line next to a wall, so the people came to John who declared the standard of God’s Word.
God’s Word will be revealed as the only standard of measurement and straightness as it is seen in relation to His holy remnant people.
God is going to hold His Word up to His people and say look, the wall matches the REED.
My People Match My Word!
John the Baptist was never pretentious or arrogant about his ministry. He knew that the one coming after him was greater and would deal with the real issues of his preaching, which was sin.
And More than a Prophet.>
He preached repentance boldly and equally be it to common people, the religious or the royalty.
Today, where are the John The Baptists that fear no one but God. Declare nothing but God’s Word and care for nothing but God’s Glory>
Please forgive the reversal of a movie quote, but John the Baptist and those ministers who are called and sent by God, are “Stirred But Not Shaken”
Stirred with a passion for God’s Truth and righteousness.
Stirred by the iniquity and perverseness of the world, and the need for repentance.
But not shaken by the world, it’s sin or it’s attempt of power.
Hebrews 12:25-29. 25 See that ye refuse not him that speaketh. For if they escaped not who refused him that spake on earth, much more shall not we escape, if we turn away from him that speaketh from heaven: 26 Whose voice then shook the earth: but now he hath promised, saying, Yet once more I shake not the earth only, but also heaven.
27 And this word, Yet once more, signifieth the removing of those things that are shaken, as of things that are made, that those things which cannot be shaken may remain.
28 Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear:
29 For our God is a consuming fire.
Psalm 1:1-6. 1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.
3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.
4 The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away.
5 Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.
6 For the Lord knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.
Romans 10:13-17. 13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. 14 How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? 15 And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things! 16 But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report?
17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
