Does Sin Make You Grieve

From Bro Mark Cowan

The true Believers in Christ do not concern themselves with what has gone wrong in the world so much as with what has happened in The Church. The true Believers are heartsick and grieved at the worldliness that has entered The Church. They are grieved at the tolerance of sin in The Church. Grieved at the lack of prayer by The Church, disturbed that the corporate prayer of The Church today no longer pulls down strongholds. The true Believers weep and mourn over the current condition and state of The Church that they see and cry out to God to awaken and open spiritual eyes and hearts of those that do not see. (The Church here refers to God’s people, not a building or denomination). We see throughout scripture how God dealt with the sins of His people and how, when the sins were repeated how God continued to deal with them. We are told in scripture that the things written of old times are for our learning and are examples for us today. 1 Corinthians 10:6, 11

>>Ezekiel 16:48, 51-52. 48 As I live, saith the Lord God, Sodom thy sister hath not done, she nor her daughters, as thou hast done, thou and thy daughters.51 Neither hath Samaria committed half of thy sins; but thou hast multiplied thine abominations more than they, and hast justified thy sisters in all thine abominations which thou hast done. 52 Thou also, which hast judged thy sisters, bear thine own shame for thy sins that thou hast committed more abominable than they: they are more righteous than thou: yea, be thou confounded also, and bear thy shame, in that thou hast justified thy sisters.

Christians often name the sins of those cities that are considered to be a modern day Sodom ( San Francisco, Vancouver) or Samaria (New York, Montreal) or Nineveh (Chicago,Toronto) or any other city deemed to be great sin centers. But will the Church wake up to see that it has sinned greater abominations than any of them ?

Ezekiel 16:4-14-14′ God tells of all He has done for His people. Then, starting in verse 15 God tells what they have done to despise all He has done for them, stating in verse 22 “And in all thine abominations and thy whoredoms thou hast not remembered the days of thy youth, when thou wast naked and bare, and wast polluted in thy blood.” We see a couple of New Testament examples also.

>>2 Peter 1:1-9. 1 Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ: 2 Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord, 3 According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: 4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. 5 And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; 6 And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; 7 And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. 8 For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.9 But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins. The most astonishing example of this concerns the Church at Ephesus. The entire book of Ephesians is packed full with the greatest of blessings that God has bestowed upon His Church through Jesus Christ like no other Church in scripture. And yet Paul still cautioned them.

>>Acts 20:28-31. 28 Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood. 29 For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock. 30 Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them. 31 Therefore watch, and remember, that by the space of three years I ceased not to warn every one night and day with tears.Yet, for all of this, we still read Jesus’ warning Word.

>>Revelation 2:1-5. 1 Unto the angel of the church of Ephesus write; These things saith he that holdeth the seven stars in his right hand, who walketh in the midst of the seven golden candlesticks; 2 I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars: 3 And hast borne, and hast patience, and for my name’s sake hast laboured, and hast not fainted. 4 Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love. 5 Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent. If God said these things to His own people in the past, then what is He saying to the Church today?

>>Ezekiel 16:15 But thou didst trust in thine own beauty, and playedst the harlot because of thy renown, and pouredst out thy fornications on every one that passed by; his it was.

 >>1 Corinthians 4:6-7. 6 And these things, brethren, I have in a figure transferred to myself and to Apollos for your sakes; that ye might learn in us not to think of men above that which is written, that no one of you be puffed up for one against another. 7 For who maketh thee to differ from another? and what hast thou that thou didst not receive? now if thou didst receive it, why dost thou glory, as if thou hadst not received it?

>>1 Corinthians 5:1-2,6. 1 It is reported commonly that there is fornication among you, and such fornication as is not so much as named among the Gentiles, that one should have his father’s wife. 2 And ye are puffed up, and have not rather mourned, that he that hath done this deed might be taken away from among you. 6 Your glorying is not good. Know ye not that a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump? There are many today that boast in their own righteousness to such a degree that no matter what abomination they may commit according to the Word of God, they boast of their liberty because they can no longer sin. >>Romans 10:2- 3. 2 For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge. 3 For they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.
