POSSIBLY ONE OF THE MOST POPULAR, MOST OFTEN QUOTED AND MOST OFTEN CLAIMED PROMISE DURING A TIME OF NATIONAL CRISIS, IS:
2 Chronicles 7:14. If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
We see a lot of national spiritual leaders calling for, and in some cases seemingly getting, unified prayer and prayer rallies to pray that God will remove the wicked from our national leadership, overrule the corruption, and restore religious liberty to the churches. But we are not seeing the desired results and there seems to be some confusion as to why. This is because we are only using 1/4 of the requirements. Like using only one tire on a car and expecting it to drive right. We need, as it were, the three missing tires.
Tire #1.HUMBLING YOURSELF:>>
Proverbs 16:5 Every one that is proud in heart is an abomination to the Lord: though hand join in hand, he shall not be unpunished.
We do not see an increased calling for a humbling of God’s people towards God, who promised that He would not only exalt the humble but also warned that He would resist the proud. Not only will God not “bless” the proud, He will stand, work and move against them.We see more activity calling for Christians to rise up and boldly take a stand for patriotic pride, safety and national righteousness. We see a rise in organized rallies, marches, demonstrations, protests and petitions, all in the name of religious rights and freedom. In a few cases we even see outright defiance against restrictions as though they believe that righteousness can be obtained through right government, legislation.
THERE SEEMS TO BE A BELIEF THAT THE “CHRISTIAN WORLD” CAN HANDLE THINGS ON THEIR OWN, JUST BECAUSE THEY ARE “CHRISTIAN”
Many have become just as is written in:>>
Revelation 3:15-18. 15 I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. 16 So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth. 17 Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked: 18 I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.
Tire #2. SEEKING HIS FACE:We see that many people are fighting harder to keep their rights, more than the Word of God. Believers need to get back to trusting, believing and obeying the Lord. There has been a drifting away from God’s Word. and it was for this reason the judgement of God fell on Israel and the results will be the same today.>>
Psalm 146:3-4,9. 3 Put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help. 4 His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth; in that very day his thoughts perish. : 9 The Lord preserveth the strangers; he relieveth the fatherless and widow: but the way of the wicked he turneth upside down.>>
Isaiah 31:1-3. 1 Woe to them that go down to Egypt for help; and stay on horses, and trust in chariots, because they are many; and in horsemen, because they are very strong; but they look not unto the Holy One of Israel, neither seek the Lord! 2 Yet he also is wise, and will bring evil, and will not call back his words: but will arise against the house of the evildoers, and against the help of them that work iniquity. 3 Now the Egyptians are men, and not God; and their horses flesh, and not spirit. When the Lord shall stretch out his hand, both he that helpeth shall fall, and he that is holpen shall fall down, and they all shall fail together.>>
Proverbs 3:5-7. 5 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. 6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. 7 Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord, and depart from evil.>>
Psalm 62:5-9.5 My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him. 6 He only is my rock and my salvation: he is my defence; I shall not be moved. 7 In God is my salvation and my glory: the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God. 8 Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us. Selah. 9 Surely men of low degree are vanity, and men of high degree are a lie: to be laid in the balance, they are altogether lighter than vanity.
Tire #3.TURNING FROM WICKEDNESS:Many are becoming like Joshua after winning a Jericho victory and are not aware that they too need the reproof of The Lord.>>
Joshua 7:2-6,10-12. 2 And Joshua sent men from Jericho to Ai, which is beside Bethaven, on the east of Bethel, and spake unto them, saying, Go up and view the country. And the men went up and viewed Ai. 3 And they returned to Joshua, and said unto him, Let not all the people go up; but let about two or three thousand men go up and smite Ai; and make not all the people to labour thither; for they are but few. 4 So there went up thither of the people about three thousand men: and they fled before the men of Ai. 5 And the men of Ai smote of them about thirty and six men: for they chased them from before the gate even unto Shebarim, and smote them in the going down: wherefore the hearts of the people melted, and became as water. 6 And Joshua rent his clothes, and fell to the earth upon his face before the ark of the Lord until the eventide, he and the elders of Israel, and put dust upon their heads. 10 And the Lord said unto Joshua, Get thee up; wherefore liest thou thus upon thy face? 11 Israel hath sinned, and they have also transgressed my covenant which I commanded them: for they have even taken of the accursed thing, and have also stolen, and dissembled also, and they have put it even among their own stuff. 12 Therefore the children of Israel could not stand before their enemies, but turned their backs before their enemies, because they were accursed: neither will I be with you any more, except ye destroy the accursed from among you.>>
2 Timothy 2:19-21. 19 Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity. 20 But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour. 21 If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, and prepared unto every good work.>>
Proverbs 16:6 By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: and by the fear of the Lord men depart from evil.
Life may treat us like we are in a demolition derby but we that know Christ as Savior and have made Him Lord have the best winner on the track. We just need to avail ourselves of all the “tires” in order to see that He will in fact keep His Word and make us more than conquerors through Christ Jesus our Lord.
