Without the LORD and His Holy Spirit living within you True Agape Love is impossible for us to have. You see you can do many wonderful things for others, but what is the intentions in your heart? When you do a wonderful thing for another, do you get offended if they dont say at least a “thank you”? If so the intention behind your wonderful act was impure and God knows that. Others may not but if you are focused on impressing people and being obedient to the Father then whatever you do means nothing in the Books in heaven.
Everything we do, we are to do it as in to the LORD and do it with joy and love. Jesus said if you do it to the least you do it unto Him. Without fanfare, without anyone knowing it is between you, the LORD and the other person if they must know. If you can do it in secret that is good too, because what we do in secret God will reward you openly.
1 Corinthians 13
1Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. 2And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing. 3And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.
4Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, 5Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; 6Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; 7Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.
8Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away. 9For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. 10But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away. 11When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things. 12For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known. 13And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.
5And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.
This kind of love only comes from God the Father. When His love in our heart, gossip will cease, jealousy will disappear, bitter will spring to thanksgiving, no longer will you keep a record of wrongs others have done, your desire for those who want your harm and misery you will have nothing but pity and tears praying for their salvation.
This kind of love takes death, death to your wants, your needs, your desires, to your very feelings. This cannot be overcome without a battle within between the Spirit and the flesh. Death isn’t easy but it must absolutely must happen. When we die to flesh and allow the love of God to shine through then those around will believe that Jesus Christ came from God and may be saved. It takes the death of a seed in order to produce a harvest never forget that. The seed cannot bring forth without dying first.
Stephen knew this love because he was a Just, devout man filled with the Holy Spirit.
