THE DANGER TREE

While the country celebrates Canada Day
NEWFOUNDLAND REMEMBERS

THE DANGER TREE: In July of 1916 during the battle of The Somme, the Newfoundland Regiment had come to this point where just beyond they were in the sights of the enemy’s guns. Unfortunately the regiment was ordered to advance and on that day alone nearly 57000 Alied soldiers fell including most of the 12000 of the Newfoundlanders. This tree is the only one remaining to this day.
A stark reminder of the death and destruction that ocured to those going beyond it.

This also reminds me of another tree that stood out in stark contrast.
The tree on Golgotha’s hill where Jesus the Son of God hung and died so that whosoever would, could believe on Him and have eternal life.

Every one of us is confronted, or comes to that tree. We can choose to stop there and surrender our sins and receive the gift of eternal life or we can ignore it, pass it by and run headlong into the wages of sin which is death and judgement to follow.

Hebrews 12:25. See that ye refuse not him that speaketh. For if they escaped not who refused him that spake on earth, much more shall not we escape, if we turn away from him that speaketh from heaven.

Hebrews 2:3. How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord ?
