Acts 2:1-4, 16-18, 21,38-39. 1 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. 2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. 3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
16 But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel; 17 And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams: 18 And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy:
21 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.
38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. 39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.
We are familiar with these verses being quoted on what we call “Pentecost Sunday” but after that…
Why do so many avoid the subject and doctrine of the Holy Spirit? And Why we do not see true evidence of the Holy Spirit working today?
(A). Fear of falling into false doctrine.
>>1 John 4:1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.
>>Matthew 24:11 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.
Because of this fear many discard or avoid the entire subject.
(B). There is often little understanding and much confusion about the Person and operation of The Holy Spirit. For many The Holy Spirit is much like the Book of Revelation, They feel He is too hard to understand, being shrouded in deep mystery.
(C).Many believe that the Holy Spirit no longer works in the world or through believers as He once did. That The gifts and workings of The Holy Spirit ended with the ending of the “Apostolic Age”. as their reasoning they quote 1 Corinthians 13:10 .But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.
(D). Many have become so busy with their programs that there is no room for The Holy Spirit to move.
As the result of the “success” of these programs many have come to believe that The Holy Spirit is no longer needed, as they can get by without Him.
Because God changes not and The Holy Spirit is part of The Godhead and changes not, I believe that The Holy Spirit is the same and His works the same as in the Book of Acts.
We see the ultimate purpose of the Holy Spirit being poured out on the day of Pentecost being evidenced as the preaching of the gospel of Jesus Christ as the power of God unto salvation (three thousand souls.and the Lord adding to the church daily such as should be saved.Acts 2:41,47) and this should be the desire of every true believer.
Therefor the following questions must be answered by everyone confessing to know Christ as Savior.
(1). Should believers quit proclaiming Truth because some ” hold the truth in unrighteousness”?
“Would you discard an entire dozen eggs if you found one bad one? or never buy eggs again? or would you discard the bad one carefully examine the rest for goodness?”
>>Titus 1:15-Titus 2:1. 15 Unto the pure all things are pure: but unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled. 16 They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.
Titus 2:1. But speak thou the things which become sound doctrine:
>>1 Thessalonians 5:15-22. 15 See that none render evil for evil unto any man; but ever follow that which is good, both among yourselves, and to all men. 16 Rejoice evermore. 17 Pray without ceasing. 18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. 19 Quench not the Spirit. 20 Despise not prophesyings. 21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. 22 Abstain from all appearance of evil.
>>2 Timothy 2:12-16. 12 If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us: 13 If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself. 14 Of these things put them in remembrance, charging them before the Lord that they strive not about words to no profit, but to the subverting of the hearers. 15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. 16 But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.
(2) How confusing or mysterious is it really for the Believer ? when the scripture tells us…..
>>1 Corinthians 2:9-13. 9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. 10 But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. 11 For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God. 12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. 13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
>>Titus 2:11-15. 11 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, 12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; 13 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; 14 Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works. 15 These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise thee.
>>Romans 1:15-20. 15 So, as much as in me is, I am ready to preach the gospel to you that are at Rome also. 16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. 17 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith. 18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; 19 Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.
>>2 Peter 1:2-10. 2 Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord, 3 According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: 4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. 5 And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; 6 And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; 7 And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. 8 For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins. 10 Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall.
(3) WHEN DID OR HOW DOES……
>>1 John 5:19 And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness.
>>Romans 5:12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned.
>>Hebrews 9:27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:
>>Luke 13:5… except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.
>>John 3:3 and >>John 1:13. Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
>>1 Timothy 4:1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils.

(4) When do programs, methodology, traditions and abilities become more important than?
>>Luke 24:45-49. 45 Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures, 46 And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behooved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day: 47 And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. 48 And ye are witnesses of these things. 49 And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.
>>Acts 1:7-8. 7 And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power. 8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
WHAT THEN DO WE SAY TO THIS?
>>1…who hath bewitched you (like the Galatians) that ye should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth, crucified among you? 2 This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? 3 Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh? Galatians 3:1-3.
>>Galatians 5:16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.
>>Romans 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
>>Revelation 22:17-19. 17 And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely. 18 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: 19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.
